The tracks that spun the world

What’s amazing about looking over Apple Music’s global chart for the year is how diverse it is. You had some familiar faces—your Drakes, your Taylors, your Harrys, your Adeles. But you also had Bad Bunny, whose pan-Latin hip-hop captured the changing sound of global pop with a playfulness and flair that downplayed just how major his ascendance has been. DJ/producers like David Guetta continued to straddle the line between what we think of as dance music and what we just call “pop”, and the growing presence of viral tracks in mainstream charts underscored just how much the way we listen to and contextualise music is changing. And while hip-hop still felt like mainstream music’s universal language, the continued spread of K- and J-pop outside South Korea and Japan has been exhilarating to watch (Yuuri’s “BETELGEUSE”, Saucy Dog’s “Cinderella Boy”). With that, here’s a rundown of Apple Music’s biggest global tracks of 2022.
