Can somebody at Google Maps please just add speed indication for South Africa … it is available in other countries and it’s available on Waze in South Africa … it’s annoying to run Google Maps & Waze ( two Google products ) at the same time just to get the speed & speed limit markers while travelling ….

Fantastic… but
Fantastic navigation app that with recent updates to the map looks amazing. I’ll upgrade my review to 5 stars when the current speed and current speed limit are displayed while navigating, especially on CarPlay. No idea why this feature is not available? Waze does it (which you own), TomTom does it, Sygic does it. Please, Google, this feature is so useful… actually it’s a necessity.

No link between web and app
Every time someone sends me the location as a link, if it opens through your web browser, it’s basically impossible to get directions, as it doesn’t give you directions through the web browser and rather asks you to use the app, and when you click ok, it takes you to the app but without any destination
And you can’t use a url as a destination so you just stuck

Perfect! But…
This app would literally be flawless if there was a bicycle option. Apparently there is one but not in my area. I’m from South Africa and it seems that there aren’t any routes for bicycles but it would be really nice if there would be an option for it. I find that it would really help if I knew how long it would take me by bicycle but I can’t. Otherwise, perfect app. 👌🏼

Directions a disaster
Something has gone very wrong with Google Maps.
After asking for directions and wanting to chose your route, it proceeds to tell you to turn at every single turn off along the way- even driveways. Utterly confusing.
In South Africa, getting lost can be fatal- literally-
If you do not know more or less where you want to go, it will take you through very dangerous areas.
We turn the voice prompt off entirely.
But we are now going to buy our own navi.
Never had these problems previously but this seems to be a common complaint now.

For the last few times I needed to use the app I had to first download an update. I find this quite dangerous as I’m not always in a safe environment to do so. Updates have been unnecessary as I’ve seen no major improvement in the app. Please note, these updates have been needed at least twice a week and if the update is not done on the spot the app cannot be used.

I like the app as a whole. The only thing I have a problem with is when I’m on safari and I look up a place and then when I say click “open in google maps” it opens the App Store instead of google maps

Hi I love the fact that your platform allows, input from visitors, it opens a lot of opportunities when I’m looking for something to do or somewhere to just visit, I can see before I invest in traveling.
I really just wish you could update your speed restrictions on the different roads, too often the road signs are unreliable.
If you can work on that I would really be so glad, I need to see the speed restrictions as well as my speed monitoring, is it something you can do, I know others are doing it, but I really love your always available, the others are constantly out of signal.

Potholes feature recommended
Amazing app! Please add feature to log potholes as obstacles in road with classification of severity. In South Africa some roads can’t be used coz of this and on some main roads has wholes of 1.2m wide x70cm broad x20cm deep. Please help
My iPhone and Google maps is just not working together for the past few months. Each time I try opening a location on WhatsApp, it takes me to the Google maps website, then asks if I want to open my maps app, then takes me to maps on the App Store, Once I click open from there, then it doesn’t give me the directions at all. Don’t know what bug this is, but it only started happening a few months ago when I updated the app, and it hasn’t been fixed yet.

Better than Apple maps but needs improvement
Google maps is better than apple maps but there is always place to improve.
1. When Google maps gives me directions the first thing it tells me to turn into a direction. I don’t want to be nasty but if I know where a specific direction is I wouldn’t use a GPS.
Please add a compass on the start screen then I knew which direction to turn.
2. I travel quite a bit and often the language isn’t one that I understand. Please give us the option which language to have as default. I appreciate that road signs need to be identifiable from the directions you give so both will be needed.

This app was great at a time. Unfortunately with all these updates my phone starts to freak out and it keeps on jumping between the web and app when i try to open a shared link. The moment i try to use it, I can’t because i first need to update the app. Updated this app almost three times this month.

Top notch app-can’t wait to see what they can add next-couple of things not in South Africa yet, but it will come. Also the multiple visits to locations would be great-sometimes stores go out of their way to make it worse/right- they should receive a shot at redemption. The mapping could be updated with traffic quicker-but that might be our MTN network. Perhaps also indicate crashes or car problems with bigger icons. Otherwise it’s smooth and barring a major hiccup works well and consistently. Have yet to really test it out in rural areas, but it’s getting better all the time.

update broke the most useful part of the app
Long time user but it’s been infuriating trying to use the app via a link from a 3rd party app (WhatsApp especially). I used to able to link on a pin in WhatsApp, select google maps, go into the app and navigate. Now all that happens when I click the pin in WhatsApp is, it takes me to a directory of places of business (restaurants, B&B’s etc.) in the area I’m supposed to be navigating to 😡😡😡 This is soooo useless. Renders the app thoroughly useless.

Route Preview wont go away
I have been in Erbil Iraq for a week now and I can not use my map to go to a location. It keeps on going to Route Preview which makes me so frustrated because I am in a different country and can not get around not show a normally taxi how to get to my hotel.
I have checked on google, and my location and privacy settings are according to the feedback that google provides.
How do I get rid of this route preview and get my google maps to work normally again?
I testarted my phone 3 times and de installed the application and reinstalled it twice already.

You cant ever stop the app
The app wont stop giving directions for hours after youve arrived, stopped the app and closed it. It never really closes. It stays open in the background and harasses you with pop up directions that make using your phone impossible. You have to restart your phone. Totally disappointed
This app has a lot of potential however it saddens me to say that this app has gone from the best app that I have ever seen to the worst app I have ever seen in an aspect of 24 hrs. What is interesting to me though is that I have written emails and reviews about this already but there is no response... it has been two weeks now and this app is only getting worse.
Its navigation is off by at least 4km/ 2.5 miles. I Have reset all the settings to network settings deleted the app and reinstalled it but nothing works I NEED ADVISE HOW TO FIX THIS...It is an important app for me and I really really need it for work driving in dangerous areas I can not afford to get lost or struggle with a faulty navigational system...

Must be the worst maps application anyone could ever download. Not only does it take you into the most dangerous areas while on your way to your destination, but wait it gets better…. This application is so terrible that it changes your route for you without even notifying you. It just chooses its own path and ignores the path you selected leaving me lost 4 times now. Far from user friendly and far from helpful. I would rather use Waze than use this useless application!

What happened to panning?
Google maps used to be my first choice for directions, but now it is too frustrating to use while on the road. Often I need to see what is ahead farther than the screen shows, so I like to pan, but recently somebody at Google had the bright idea to change the way it works. Now when I try to pan with one finger it flips the map upside down and moves my whole route offscreen. I can’t see how that would be useful to anyone...

Too complicated to use when in a hurry
The app has progressively become less user friendly, frustrating and horrible to use, especially when I’m just trying to find a location and follow the map to the destination in a hurry. It now has too many fancy, complicated, unnecessary and time-wasting options...Why not just allow me to search for the address, and press “Go” without the stupid options to “walk to the destination”, “catch a bus”, “ride a bird” and many other stupid options that make daily use of Google maps a pain and impractical? Waze is so much more straight forward.

The app has helped me navigate big metropolitan cities with no hassle... plus the gas, restaurants etc features are the cherry on top . Travel and arrival times are waaaay off
Always been a great app but for a while now travel and arrival times are way off! I travel a lot for work and use some form of navigation app almost every day. This app has become unreliable... I need to advise clients of arrival times and can’t trust Google Maps anymore. Just updated to latest version and seems the problem still persists. Please fix this bug guys... I’m using Waze now as my preferred navigation app. Bit disappointing because I think of this app as the Gold Standard.

Would it be possible to make it that your name on google maps you can have a nick name when writing reviews- like keep your actual gmail with your real name.. but have an option to have a nick name on google maps, so when making reviews you can have a nick name instead on your gmail account name.

What happened?
The app is not what it was, it does not load all the streets up on the map like it used to. Also the cameras have been removed as I liked the feature of knowing where a speed camera is. Some roads are dead ends or one ways and then maps sends you the wrong way. I rely on this app everyday but some things are not right. Please can you guys fix this, the app is great but re add the traffic cameras and have your drivers mark the roads properly

I love using this application to help me make my way around my city. Not only is Google accurate but the directions are clear every time and the voice over sound is preferable to me. I enjoy the tour guide feature as well, which I’m now hopping on and will be making the most use of!

Neighboring location
Maps is great for street address location and routes
But If one wants to locate a certain type of service or product through geo location ie , you find a retail business and one wants to find houses for rent or sale in 1klm radius of the location ie the retail shop you cannot find other listings in the aera only places of interest or city sites .
Google maps should sync residential units for sale or rent in proximity of a searched location.

I absolutely love this app! It’s so very useful. It reminds me of the song “Amazing Grace” where they say “I once was lost, but now I’m found”, haha, just kidding. I’m an long time user of Google Maps and big fan. Thank you developers for making this an incredible service to humanity. It just keeps on improving and bettering our lives.
Personally, the features I love most are:
1) Fantastic and clean user interface
2) Live traffic view
3) Busy times of places
4) Photo’s and ratings of places
5) You can download maps for offline use when you don't have signal
6) Personal saved location timeline
Recommendation:
1) Please add more features to the “Timeline” feature. Such as:
a) “how many times you’ve visited a selected place (this month or this year). “
b) Provide stats to show you a breakdown on distance travelled per mode. (I’m curious to calculate my total commute for the past 4 years).

“Bug fix”
Your latest bug fix did the opposite, it created a gremlin! I was checking out the fastest way to work (i.e. I wasn’t using it to navigate) and it gave me a route that would have taken over an hour. I didn’t even recognise any of the roads. I ignored it and went my usual route anyway, but kept it on to see what was going on with the app. It kept trying to reroute but couldn’t do so. The map itself showed my correct position on the road, but it kept giving strange directions showing dotted lines on non existent roads. Anyway, it took me less than 20 minutes to get to work. Thank goodness I wasn’t using the map for navigation, that would have been a TOTAL disaster.

It’s a wonderful app especially if you’re new in a city. I know the app gives route suggestions according to traffic and other factors and that gives different routes which no one uses so can I ask the developers to add a function after a trip that it gives you a option to say KEEP THIS ROUTE whenever I’m traveling the same route and it will be up to me if I want to go on traffic congested route. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT.

Still the king of the hill...
By leaps and bounds of magnitude better than what Apple has to offer. Even though Google’s privacy practices have come under scrutiny as of end 2018. All that data that collect from the hapless masses is paying off in heaps if you look at their offerings. Hey, you have to pay top dollar for those talented engineers you employ, right?!

I wish I could load geotagged pictures to make sure that the available pictures are as close to the current situation as possible. Even if there as loading frequency control like once in six months per registered user.

Current Traffic Movements Gone
Recently did the update and Google maps have removed the option of seeing current traffic movements without putting in the destination. The app used to let you see all the traffic without adding in a destination. Now you have to put in an address to see the traffic along your route.
Much easier to see the whole area at glance by just opening google maps and not adding destination.

Annoying
I've used this app on a regular basis, but since the last update it's annoying. I select the destination, on starting the voice is delayed. Thereafter , it's not as frequent as previous version. However, when I had to make turns it would give me the instructions, but before I even reach that point I'm being given the following instructions. This causes immense confusion and stressful for a driver. The volume is very low on an iPhone 8. I've checked all settings and compared to iPhone 7. Wouldn't recommend to anyone right now.

Google maps on car play needs work
There is only one view in car play. The flat map option is sorely needed. After using it on CarPlay for 5 minutes I switched back to Apple Maps and I am not a fan of that app. Your CarPlay implementation also needs to show street names better. I was hoping for much better.
On those fronts you guys can learn from Apple Maps. C’mon Google you can do better than this!

Very good platform and can go off line use also , with downloadable maps for the area that you are going to be traveling in which makes it easy for when your phone does not work in a specific country . Never get lost with this google maps app again 😊😊😊

What used to be the best has become the worst!!
I trusted this app with all of me but it has now become the worst app EVER!! I have gotten lost so many times using it since May. I just uninstalled it now and reinstalling it hoping there’ll be some difference after this. If not, I’ll be done with it for good. Petrol can’t keep getting chowed by my getting lost!! I’m just glad I’m not the only one with the problem because I was starting to think it was my phone that was an issue.
I just tried it after reinstalling it. I’m done with this app. Whatever that was done to it in May clearly isn’t working. It’s not locating me at the correct location. Let me know when you’ve fixed it.

Terrible
I loved google maps until about December, i updated it and it just didn’t work right. It doesn’t pick up the right location of my phone, tells me off the road, and keeps redirecting because it can’t pick up my proper location.. My location services are on and my phone is against my car’s air-con so it’s not like my phone is obscured from satellite signals.. It has gotten me lost countless times now, and updating it did not fix the problems. I don’t know what you guys did with that one update but it broke my maps. Very disappointing for a google app.

False "No connection" alert
Are Google and Apple undergoing some dispute that has caused ALL Google Apps to misbehave on all my iOS devices?!
Every Google app claims "No connection" whether I'm connected via LTE or a high speed WiFi connection. I then have to toggle the data and or WiFi switches on and off several times before any of the Google apps acknowledge I'm connected. And I have to go through the rigamorale with every app individually, multiple times a day.
What is happening?! I'm begging you to fix it! I can't do a thing productively anymore!

Google Maps Navigation
Past few months have been a nightmare with Google Maps. It will show you the journey to be traveled however, as soon as it needs to assist navigating the application does not work properly. To think this used to be the best in the market now it's so disappointing 😭😭😭
Not too sure how to directly respond. When opening the app, it will show which route to take, however when the trip needs to commence then the voice doesn't even navigate. Then it will go into a mode as if it is picking up the route, the it reroutes only to be have a delayed reaction. When you think that's the worst part, then it starts from the top while in the middle of the journey 💔. I've gotten lost in the most scariest of places. Google Maps used to be the best thing in my life.
