Why is telegram forcing me to use premium? What happened to the free one?

I’ve been using telegram since 2022 but 4 years later I was logged out of my I account and I was asked to pay the premium subscription for a week and I did that, then I was asked to type my accounts password. I’ve never locked my account with a password so I tapped the forgot password option and they said since I never put in a recovery email I must reset my account. I reseted it and apparently the reset is 7days, which is exactly how long my premium subscription lasts. I’ve been basically scammed.

Gross disregard for privacy
Stay away of this app my friends, many, many things are wrong with it.
1. I did not give permission when I installed the app and activated my account, but someone I know who had my number on their contacts, and who had Telegram installed, got notified when I joined. I did not want this person to know.
2. Following on from this, Telegram insists on sharing contacts. I’m very OCD, and hate unanswered issues and notifications, but I am unable to remove the warning that I have not shared my contacts. This should be an option, not a warning!
3. And following on from this, I switch off notifications for all apps, as it makes me anxious, but Telegram issues a warning when I do this that I should switch it back on.
Please can someone at Telegram be less pushy, this is not the way to make your app succeed, it has the opposite effect and negates all the hard work that may have otherwise gone into making it better than others.

If you really want to top Whatsapp, I suggest you give us some kind of indication whether or not the people we have under contacts also have us stored as a contact, you know unlike whatsapp where you need to send a broadcast to be able to determine whether someone have you stored as a contact.
Why? Because theres contacts always online when I am, but now I do not want to hit them with a random "Hey" if they do not have me as a contact, I want to be able to know if they also have me and see that we both online together so that we both available to chat. Cannot delete spam groups
I am added to spam groups without my consent. I am then unable to leave the group or delete it. The security of Telegram is poor if anyone can add you to their group whether you know them or not.
The notifications everytime someone in my contacts joins Telegram is also irritating.

Frozen account for no reason
My account has been frozen for no reason, no warning, no explanation. I paid for a trading Copier that works through my Telegram VIP trading signals. The company has been operating for years with many clients using the copy trader connected to their Telegram accounts. I’ve tried to connect the Copy trader with many of my Telegram accounts but each account just gets frozen and the appeals denied. I paid a lot of money for the Copy Trader and will not be able to use it because of Telegram freezing my accounts, I do not spam or send any scam messages and gets frozen while the real scammers are out there scamming people!!! This is not fair Telegram please do better.

New phone, can’t setup
Why is this such a mission. I’m sure people do this everyday, get a new phone, download the app, verify and hey presto. But this would be too simple for telegram to get right.
After entering the phone number waiting for the SMS that never comes, I enter my email, which it tells me I can’t use. Then it wants be me to sign up for telegram premium, which out of frustration I did, but still non the wiser. Still stuck and the app doesn’t work.

Buggy and not working
Telegram used to be great, not sure if all the developers just went on a long holiday or what. The sms verification to log in does not work 90% of the time so you can’t use the app or even log in, the camera does not work, it just shows a black screen, the notifications are staggered and a nightmare. Really not what it used to be. Very disappointing as I prefer it over others, but might need to switch back.

I reported that someone has access to my account 4 times in the past 2 weeks and I’ve gotten no response nor help. Seems no one works at Telegram anymore. I can’t terminate their session because they now have the oldest session and they terminate my session within a few hours of me logging in each time. I have put 2 factor authentication and all other security measure but they stay in my account as the principal owner. Disappointing.

Forcing users to pay for premium to avoid being contacted by random people
Used to use Telegram. Haven’t used it in a while. Have now had to delete it to stop being spammed by users I don’t know and who aren’t contacts, who are able to message you despite not being a contact and add you to groups without your consent. Oh and the feature to stop that from happening - is a paid feature so upgrade or just take it. No thanks, bye bye Telegram. And I’ll advise everyone I know to also get rid of it.
You have to allow users to control this and you can’t make this a paid feature that is ridiculous that is basic privacy.

Data Hacking and number hacking
I’ve tried to report a breach in security to Telegram through the App for some time in 2024 already. I’ve downloaded the app awhile back, but never used it. Then I realised someone is using my data through the App, because my usage spiked to a few Gig per month without me opening the App. Data usage for Telegram wasn’t activated on my phone either. Now I don’t even have Telegram on my phone anymore, but my number still gets data usage from Telegram. Don’t download. Their customer service is non-existing and you’ll never sort out the problem.

Zero Support-Stole all my stars and purchases
I am a 45 year old lady whom mainly use telegram for mini apps and games and use in app purchases quite often. As a flight attendant I travel internationally. In August I Landed in London and opened the App. Suddenly it says “Number banned”. Fine, I reach out to support for clarity as I certainly have never used the app for illicit activities. There is ZERO support on any platform. Emails sent: more than 10, no answer on X-login support. They were happy to take my money in support of their mini apps, yet now after 2 months of contacting them still no support…. Not even an acknowledgment of my request for assistance. It is frightening that they can ban you for no reason with no recourse and you will never see your telegram stars again and all money spent on in app purchases in mini apps was thus just stolen….extremely disappointing.

Crash when clicking
Since the latest update, whenever I go into the app and click on a chat it just freezes.
You can’t do anything after that except close the app. Scrolling through chats is fine, clicking on any other buttons except a chat is also fine, it’s just when you click on a chat, any chat, that it just freezes and you can’t click on anything at all.

Spammers paradise app deleted
I get added to Oceana Trade Group as soon as I leave. It does not have a block and report group feature. I have reported it to telegram to no avail. So I am reporting it here now. Please remove my name from this group and block the group. Failure to do so will cause me to remove telegram from all my family and devices and will attract a no good spam friendly reputation. The feature where you can block groups does not exist in my settings. Please fix this as a matter of urgency. 30 May 2024
Crypto spams keep adding you to their spam lists and there is no recourse to block and report it. This app seriously need to look at giving power back to their users to decide if they want to be added rather than spammers going wild and adding you regardless. Bye bye telegram. After updating last 4months ago it started freezing up whenever I want to open chats and I thought if I updated it again last night things will go back to normal and able to open my chats but still the same 🙆🏽♀️ Whats happening here? The application doesn't work well. Poor customer service.
My phone was stolen. With a SIM card. I had to buy a new number and make a new account in the application. Since then it has been impossible to use the application! I can't write to contacts who don't have my phone number. But no one has them, because this is a new number. Support doesn't help. I wrote an appeal more than 10 times! Disgusting app. I don't recommend it to anyone

Great app, bad features (group notifications)
I like the app, however I hate that I get notifications of so and so entered the group. And if I mute the group, then I miss important messages sent to the group. I’d like the developers to allow the option to specifically mute the “so and so joins the group” notification. Cause many people join that group continually, I’m only interested in the notifications of the message sent. Thanks.

The moderation system is being abused and any recourse is fake
Moderation processes are poor and open to abuse.
I rarely use the app and then rarely post a comment. Yet my account gets suspended for posting multiple spam comments, which there is no trace of. The moderation system informs you that a moderator has agreed with the assesment. Clearly Telegram is either dishonest and untruthful or its processes are compromised and ineffective.
If you try and respond to the accusations it puts you into a chat loop, which is either high school grade coding or a dishonest process of seemingly hearing both sides of a case. To build faith and trust in a product, justice needs to be seen to be done, but in Telegram’s case it is clear that any semblance of consumer recourse is blatantly fake.
This is the quickest way to kill a brand. Good luck.
For those wanting to censor others on this app, merely mark comments as spam and Telegram will execute the censorship and certify that it has reviewed all the non-existent spam.

There’s a traffic report group on the app that I’m on and it’s giving traffic reports country wide, with previous versions of the app where more info would show on notifications of a message was it possible to see if I can ignore the message or should I go look and see what the report is about but now it just says there’s a new message, I’m a truck driver and can’t open pay attention to every message and this is really frustrating and cause of this makes it the group that gives this service and the app useless

Notifications + FaceID is broken!
Since the latest update, push notifications just show “you have a new message” This is because I have the FaceID enabled in the Telegram settings. My Lock Screen is already secured with my FaceID. No one can see my notification previews without me looking at my phone. I’ve now had to disable FaceID in Telegram! Please give me an option to prevent Telegram from hiding the notification preview on the Lock Screen!
Also… the animated emojis are nice but they get in the way! I use the normal emojis way more often so I end up scrolling a lot to find the emoji I use most often. Please put the normal emojis before the animated ones! Or at the very least, put the ones I use most frequently first!

Telegram calls
iPhone 12: When playing music via apple music and one accept/answers a Telegram call, music continues to play on the background while on a call.
The music must automatically pause when the call comes in and unpause after the call.
This also happens when one makes a Telegram call.

All emoji’s are broken after updating
Every time I log in all the emoji’s are showing question marks inside a block this update Is one of the worst I have ever seen there are so many bugs and you guys are not listening I have constantly requested a privacy feature to enable contacts only to private message as a privacy option and you just ignore this request. Come on it’s surely a simple setting that can be implemented like the privacy settings for being added to groups?

New contact’s notifications
For some reason there’s a notification every time one of my contacts joins Telegram I’ve switched off notifications on new contacts but still pops up every time a new contact gets Telegram!!? Please please can we change this!?

Vetting
Beautiful app. Needs one more thing in groups. The ability to add people to groups while keeping a reference to who vetted them, ie who said they’re ok to add. Most of my groups have become infiltrated by crypto agents and other questionable characters. It would help a lot if I can click on a user and see who okayed them into the group.

Super Buggy experience after latest update
This latest update has completely messed up my experience (custom chat themes were reset,app crashes became very frequent and unable to open certain personal channels) and is very inconvenient. Before all this, it was a really good chat app and my preferred chat platform so I really hope that the bugs can be solved in not too long.

All good but the calls..
I downloaded Telegram and was immediately impressed by the features. However there is one major flaw that can make or break it for people and that issue relates to calls. 1. When on a call and the speaker is on for both users, the calls don’t project the sound loud enough - it’s as if the call isn’t even on loud speaker and 2. We can’t lock our phones while on a call. The moment the phone is locked the call ends.

However, I decided to delete it because although the option to receive notifications for new contacts was off, I received constant notifications from my contacts that joined the application. In fact, I also received notifications from contacts which were not in my address book that joint telegram.
I believe this is a breach of trust and therefore I deleted the application from my phone.

Status updates and Telegram bundles
The app is great and i dont regret my move from whatsapp to telegram at all. I only have 2 problems here: 1. We need status updates, they keep us entertained. 2. We want Telegram bundles. Just like whatsapp has specific bundles only for whatsapp use, can you also not arrange something simalar with the different cell service providers for Telegram? It makes life easier for those of us who dont have wifi and it keeps us connected.

Excellent but...
Been using your app for a little over a year now and I love it, however, having a look on social media the general complaint seems to be the fact that there are adult groups visible in the channels at all times. In my opinion, you guys either need to hide all channels as a defaultOr they should only be visible by invite only not through the general search. This seem to be the thing that is making a lot of people second guess your app.

Great and useful unlike the green app
Am glad that most people are now migrating to this app it’s about time, this app is great in many ways and i like how it’s fluid like, it has more fun and if you add a killer button the story button the green App will be history and their selfishness and greediness will be their downfall.

Global Searches
Hey telegram, we love the app so far. However, could you please consider removing the global searches feature? I know a lot of people would rather see their own contacts when searching them. Plus, it’s a bit dangerous because other people can text you from completely different countries. There isn’t much of a need for that really feature, please consider removing it. Thank you❤️

ADD STATUS/STORY features like WhatsApp
You have a beautiful app. I love how I can customize my message screen. It’s simple to use and identical to WhatsApp’s layout. My one and only suggestion is to please create a Stories/Status feature like WhatsApp & IG stories. Capitalize on WhatsApp’s weaknesses, many are not happy with the new privacy policy so we are more than happy to migrate to Telegram if we get that feature soon!!!!

Great Alternative To WhatsApp
I've switched to Telegram due to WhatsApp's latest privacy policy debacle, and I'm not regretting it one bit! An excellent app indeed. The only thing I miss from WhatsApp is the status option. But hopefully they add it to Telegram soon. Other than that, I'm very happy with the switch.

Near Perfect
I quite enjoy the app, the only reason It didn’t get a 5 star rating is because there is no feature for status updates which I quite enjoy on WhatsApp and I also don’t like that someone can delete the messages on my side as well without my consent. But overall satisfied.

Turn off “joined” contacts option
Please please for the love of all things good! Give us the option to turn off receiving new chats automatically when someone in your contacts joins telegram! I’ve got 1000s of contacts and my chat list is a mess cos of this option. I can’t even multi-select chats to delete all option.

Statuses
Hello your app is great, I don’t know if you realized that in the past hours a lot of people have been switching to it. However now there is a big problem, you can’t upload statuses in the app which it’s something not cool. Almost all social apps have that feature when telegram does not, so please work on making these features available. Thank you

The app is great, but the only thing missing is the “story” or “status” button, if u can add this feature and many other features such as group voice calls and group video calls, you will officially beat WhatsApp and make more money and make us happy. Still want my keys
I love Telegram and think it’s a far superior app to WhatsApp or any of the other consumer texting services.
All that said, Telegram doesn’t use end-to-end encryption by default. Sure they’ve got a cloud based philosophy and claim to distribute encryption keys over multiple sovereign areas to prevent compromise by anybody; but in the end, they still control the encryption keys. I want to control at least a potion of those keys. I don’t want to Have to trust Telegram FZ-LLC.

Great app however...
The app worked perfectly fine but now the messages pop up as a notification. However, as soon as I click to go into the app, the message is not there. This happens particularly with my group messages. It’s important that I use this app because our neighborhood watch group only uses Telegram. Please can you fix this as a matter of urgency, it literally is a matter of our safety. Thanks.

Secure chat on group texts
The app is great and provides so much convenience and security when you have a secret chat. Can this feature not be introduced into the group chats of the group. Maybe have a self destruct option after each group member reads the text. But the text only disappears on the readers interface and the ones that haven’t yet opened it still can veiw it.

Don’t receive all messages
This app worked well but recently some people said they couldn’t send messages to me. They specifically also mentioned they can’t send videos and photos to me on Telegram. Then when they tried other apps e.g. iMessage or WhatsApp they were able to send to me. I had to reboot my phone a few times to see if that will help. Which is alarming about this is that I might not be able to send or receive urgent messages to and fro from the neighborhood’s security group.

My friends and I have recently really started enjoying telegram. We love all the features and little tricks , the only thing it’s missing is a good way to quickly share with your contacts/ selected contacts photos , text and videos. I think a feature like like similar to Instagram stories would really thrive on telegram. Thank you

Amazing
Lately WhatsApp just crashed and most people have now switched to telegram
I think it would just be cool if telegram could now do stories and they could use WhatsApp’s weakness as it’s opportunity to do better🤷🏽♀️ we all just want stories and Telegram will be amazing. Otherwise it’s still awesome and I love the app. I love that you can choose a theme you want and an icon I mean does it get any better😩❤️ it’s not giving any problems so far. I love the stickers and I just love everything about it

I love it but...
With the latest update to the 17 June 2019, opening photos stopped working, it sows the thumbnail on the chat but when you try open it to full screen it just show a back screen. Also Telegram is missing video calling. 👍🏻 for privacy and keep up with the good work. Everything else is perfect👌🏻 .

Modern Communication has been Perfected
This app is exactly what communication in an online and connected world should be. The limitations of geographical distance between people have been completely eradicated thanks to the internet, and the whole world can now share whatever they want with each other.
Many services are available that people can use to connect and communicate with each other, but none have come close to what Telegram has achieved. It is by far the best App for messaging and the ultimate way to share literally anything. Truly Private and extremely Secure, no restrictions on anything you share, and unlimited usage.
I can honestly say that Telegram has achieved perfection and is the only App you’ll ever need! I no longer use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger as they pale in comparison. Recommending it to everyone I know!

Good but have to open app for messages to come through
Find app very usefull and features better than whatsapp, however noticed that you have to open telegram every time for messages to come through on iphone 7 and 6, thus it is easy to let important messages go unnoticed when you havent opened the app regularly. Feels almost like the old mxit. Thus cannot give the app a 5 star rating. Will rather use whatsapp as main IM app as messages automatically comes through if the app is opened or not. Please fix this issue and 5 star rating will definitely be given. Thanks
