Description
Apollo was an iOS app for browsing Reddit from 2015 to 2023. In 2023 Reddit announced significant price changes to their API, going from free to potentially costing tens of millions of dollars per year, with 30 days notice before developers would start incurring charges. As a result, Apollo was forced to shut down after the better part of a decade building for an incredible, supportive community. With over 100,000 five star ratings, and many accolades, I was incredibly proud of what Apollo accomplished.
The app now exists in a commemorative/historic state, with a thank you message, the option to unlock a Goodbye Apollo wallpaper pack, and options to export data if you had the app downloaded previously (shake the device), and all previous app icons are now automatically unlocked. You can also use the app as a hub to get updates about other things the developer (Christian Selig) is working on.
Again, thank you so much for all the years of fun, it was the honor of a lifetime building the app for all of you!

I’m In Pieces
I am still broken inside because this app had to shut down. It was unrivalled in used experience and actually made reddit fun.
I open this app on a regular basis just to cry a little bit and reminisce the good timed that I had using this app.
Thanks for everything Apollo, you will be missed.

Best Reddit App on iOS
This is honestly the best reddit app on iOS! Sadly, thanks to the API changes that reddit will be implementing, Apollo will be shutting down on the 30th of June 2023.

Christian, what you’ve done for this app and the Reddit community cannot be encapsulated sufficiently in words. Aside from creating a sleek, beautiful and swift app, you’ve tackled the core principles of what makes a great experience.
The app alone allows for the most optimal Reddit experience: no ads, seeing posts from relevant subs, no ads, no intrusive posts from truly unlinked sub-Reddits, and biggest of all: No Ads.

It’s been a wild ride
This app has been with me for the past 5-6 years. In that time I discovered how Reddit truly should be experienced. It’s truly world-shattering knowing that this app will be gone by the end of the month, as it means I’m going to be deleting my account and moving on. To Christian I would like to say that I’m eternally grateful for the effort you put into this app, it truly turned into something amazing. I’d also like to thank you for putting effort on being a part of the community and making us feel special as users of Apollo :) what started as an app ended as something more.

Screw Reddit
I came to Reddit because I was looking for a community I could relate to and engage with. Coming from 9GAG, that was a tall ask, but I’ve found my place and I’ve found what I was looking for. BUT, and this is a bug ‘but’. The way that Reddit is currently treating 3rd party apps is deplorable. I wish nothing but the best for Chris. This may be one of the last few reviews for this app. I’ve only recently become acquainted with Apollo, but it’s awesome. That’s all I have to say.

Infinite scroll not working
Glitchy… infinite scroll doesn’t really work on here, using iPhone 10. Love Apollo but this aspect really runs the experience

App keeps crashing
I’ve had the app for a few years no real issues. Today though, it started randomly just crashing. Tried to check if the app needs updating but it didn't. Also checked if my phone needed updating and it doesn't.
Running iOS 14.6 on iPhone SE 2020 version.

Not great without paid features
Rating is based on using the free version. Creating a post is a paid feature, kind of a big part of the reddit experience. Looks like a good app if you're prepared to pay. I'd rather pay for Apollo than reddit premium.

Worth it!(read till the end)
I can’t thank you enough for this amazing app! Not only is it sleeker, smoother, cleaner than the original reddit interface but as a bonus there are no ads even without Apollo pro! The beautiful dark theme takes beauty to another level and it really feels like a iOS app if that makes sense. Don’t forget this is one man making this app and Apollo pro isn’t expensive for what he is doing. I bought pro and it’s 100% worth it, the ability to change my app icon, post and change comments themes is so worth it I’m definitely going to support this app further by tipping and eventually getting Apollo ultra! If you read this review thus far let me tell you this app is worth it, Pro or not it’s sure to offer you a smooth reddit experience.

I’ve tried them all and can honestly say that this client app works the best. It feels right at home on iOS and has so many useful features. My favorite is the quick swipe gestures, the gif scrolling and multireddits.
I only have one suggestion to the dev. Is it possible that you can make one able to pick from existing subscribed subreddits when creating a multireddit, like a list view and then just picking instead of typing the sub? Thanks for the great app!

Need to pay to post
I usually just view posts, in which case the app was great. However, when I wanted to post something myself it told me I need to buy the pro version. I understand wanting to profit off an app, but removing a basic feature of reddit is a dick move.

Basically perfect
This is the ultimate reddit app for iOS. It feels like a true Apple experience. All the small details, the consistency with all apples UI guidelines... just a great experience. Love the haptic feedback and the darker dark mode.
